From rooftop pools to private movie theaters, the amenities in luxury Chicago apartment buildings leave little to be desired. Residents don’t have to leave the property to work out in a state-of-the-art fitness center, they can work from home in gorgeous business centers with reservable conference rooms, and they can even schedule visits from their masseuse in private massage rooms. The conveniences that come with living in a downtown Chicago apartment are limitless, with everything you need either in the building or just down the street. However, some residents get an extra bonus by living in buildings that have wonderful additions in their ground floor retail spaces. Here are our top five picks for best retail spaces in downtown Chicago apartment buildings:

Atwater Apartments

At 355 E. Ohio, Atwater Apartments has an excellent Streeterville location. In the cul-de-sac that the building shares with The Streeter, residents have D4 Irish Pub, Dollop Coffee and Tea, and a new Massage Envy Spa location. The greatest perk of living at Atwater may be the building’s connection with their retail resident- Yolk. Residents can get Yolk delivered to their apartment without a delivery charge Monday-Friday and also qualify for 10% all of their Yolk bills.

OneEleven

This fall Soul Cycle opened its second Chicago location on Wacker Drive in a retail space at OneEleven. The high-energy workouts combine cycling with dance and are known for their cult following in New York. A bit north of the Loop, the other Soul Cycle location is also in a residential building’s retail space at 1225 Old Town.

AMLI River North

Senior Broker Associate, Tristen Heimann calls AMLI River North’s location, “the most progressive corner in the city.” At the corner of Hubbard and Clark, residents are surrounded by River North‘s most popular bars and restaurants. This is the corner that Lyfe Kitchen opened its first Chicago location in the fall of 2013. The healthy fast-casual restaurant has proven to be a huge success with multiple locations- the most recent opening at New City.

The Lofts at River East

The Lofts at River East is now leasing luxury Streeterville lofts at 445 E. Illinois. Residents will have no shortage of entertainment options with AMC River East down the street and their private 10,000 square foot rooftop deck with a wet bar, fire pits, grills, and an outdoor theatre. But if that’s not enough, there’s also Pinstripes downstairs for a game of bocce or to bowl. The bistro menu is expansive and offers a happy hour during the week from 3-6:30PM.

Grand Plaza

At the busy corner of Grand and State, residents of Grand Plaza are in the heart of it all. With an expansive floor of amenities, an excellent location, and a CTA red line stop directly underneath, Grand Plaza offers many conveniences. Perfect for winter hibernation, the retail spaces make sure every base is covered, with a Chipotle, Bed, Bath and Beyond, and a Jewel-Osco grocery store.
