5 of Chicago’s Finest Food Trucks
Chicago’s food truck scene has taken off in the last few years, since local regulations were changed to allow them. The options are endless and easily accessible thanks to Twitter. So next time you don’t have time to pack lunch or want to try something new, check out one of Chicago’s favorite food trucks. Here are five of our favorites:
1. The Tamale Spaceship
Pick up a side of delicious guac and a pair of tamales for lunch from the truck, or visit @tamalespaceship‘s new permanent location in Wicker Park. The tamales’ unique sauces and finely cooked meat, like adobo marinated, slowly roasted pork, are always delicious and sure to spice up any day at the office.
2. Chicago Cupcake
Earlier this week, we tweeted @Chicago_Cupcake when we had a birthday in the office. They came right away and delivered some very sweet treats. The cupcakes are unique; they’re less cake and more custard pie in cupcake form with a bottom crust. Each flavor was delicious, but I’ll be back to try the Peanut Butter Nutella and Key Wester.
3. Soups in the Loop
It may officially be spring, but there are still plenty of days left that could use a fresh bowl of soup to warm up. Visit @SoupsInTheLoop to choose from six homemade soup varieties. Keep an eye out for the Chicken Pot Pie or Spanish Chicken Lime in the rotating category, but remember that Soups In The Loop is always serving their signature Lobster Bisque and Chicken Wild Rice.
4. The Fat Shallot
If your favorite lunch stop is Subway, it’s time to liven up your sandwich game. It only takes one look at The Fat Shallot’s social media feeds to get a stomach growling. While @thefatshallot‘s delicious grilled cheese and BLT sandwiches are hard to beat, the buffalo chicken sandwich with fried chicken strips on a challah bun with blue cheese sauce and a celery salad is a fan favorite.
5. 5411 Empanadas
Three friends founded 5411, in order to bring a taste of Argentina to Chicago. The reasoning behind @5411empanadas‘ success story is apparent upon biting into one of their amazing empanadas. My top two were the Chorizo & Patatas Bravas and the Malbec Beef. For more empanada access, Chicagoans can now visit their stores in Wicker Park and Lincoln Park, while also enjoying Intelligentia coffee and local draft beers.
