Grab a Drink at These New Bars in Chicago
From tiki bars to hidden speakeasies, the city has endless contenders for the best bars in Chicago. While River North may have the highest concentration of trendy bars, there are options throughout the city. Let’s take a look at a few of the new bars that either opened recently or are planning to open in 2019.
Young American, Logan Square
From the team behind Sportsman Club and Estero, the Young American will be opening this weekend in the storefront long-time home to Johnny’s Grill, directly overlooking the Illinois Centennial Monument. Nearly 20 local artists worked on the space to create a new aesthetic and cohesive space. In addition to beer and wine, Young American’s craft cocktail menu offers eight boozy concoctions and three spirit-free options, all of which can be infused with CBD for an extra cost.
Bar Sótano, River North
Chicago Magazine called Rick Bayless’ new bar a “Mezcal Mecca” in River North and it’s creating quite a stir for Chicagoans looking to warm up with a drink this winter. Underneath Frontera Grill Bar, at 443 N. Clark, Bar Sótano is intended to be an easy-going speakeasy with small plates for sharing and spicy drinks. Like the nearby Three Dots and a Dash, the entrance be found in the alley behind the restaurant.
Parson’s Chicken and Fish, Lincoln Park
One of Logan Square’s most popular patios has opened a second location in Lincoln Park at 2435 N. Halsted. The fried chicken spot is known for its frozen cocktails replaced a Le May Auto Parts store, with the patio taking over the previous store’s parking lot space. The new Lincoln Park location’s hours will match the original’s with daily brunch and late-night food until midnight. This year the brand is also introducing Parson’s Beer, brewed by Revolution Brewing, as the perfect patio partner for Summer 2019.
The Swill Inn, River West
At 415 N. Milwaukee, River West’s newest gastropub opened in December. The Swill Inn’s menu includes Midwestern comfort food, boozy cocktails, and coffee drinks. With five signature drinks, the Swill Inn offers a cozy spot to warm up with a Hot Buttered Rum (served hot and guilt-free, according to their menu) and a signature burger. Special weekly items range from $1 oysters on Mondays to Fish Fry Fridays.
