Neighborhood Update: Living in Logan Square

August 8, 2017 | By JD Eaton
Reading Time: 2 Minutes

Since opening last year, the neighborhood around L Logan Square has continued to evolve. At 2211 N. Milwaukee, L’s location had many original merits— a quick walk to the California Blue Line stop, easy commuting options on the Metra and highway, and a variety of restaurants, bars and cafes to choose between. The last category has seen an influx of additions this year, most recently with the opening of Navigator Tap Room, a pour-your-own craft beer bar.

With 48 taps along the beer wall, eight taps will be dedicated to wine and a variety of ciders will also be provided. Navigator doesn’t offer food, but does allow guests to bring their own food or order delivery to the tap room. Fortunately, there are plenty of restaurants to choose from in the neighborhood, including: Township, 90 Miles Cuban Cafe, Parson’s Chicken & Fish, Don Chema, Logan Bar & Grill, and Scofflaw.

Residents at L Logan Square also have the option to entertain friends on the outdoor sundeck, with BBQ grills, a fire pit, lounge chairs, water feature, and a refurbished CTA train car lounge. From the 24-hour fitness center to the bike kitchen, L’s amenities provide every convenience for residents— there’s even complimentary coffee and a cereal bar in the resident lounge.

L is currently leasing for August and September; these Logan Square apartments feature enormous walk-in closets with custom shelving and floor-to-ceiling windows with solar shades. The open kitchen design provides ample room for a true dining space and offers quartz countertops, soft-close cabinets, and stainless steel appliances. Each apartment includes washer/dryer in-unit, individually controlled heating/cooling, and gray plank flooring throughout.

Floor plans range from junior one bedroom to two bedroom apartments, plus a unique opportunity to rent by the room-  co-living offers individual rooms for rent in the spacious three bedroom floor plans. Follow the link below to browse listings and learn more about living in Logan Square.

Getting to Know Luxury Streeterville Apartments

August 4, 2017 | By Amy Galvin
Reading Time: 2 Minutes

Luxury Streeterville apartments are perfect for the Chicago renter looking to live close to Michigan Avenue and the Chicago lakefront.

The History of Streeterville

In the late 1800s, George Wellington “Cap” Streeter and his second wife Maria accidentally found land when sailing in Lake Michigan. When their boat hit a sandbar, Captain Streeter claimed the land as his own. He charged developers to use the sandbar as a waste area. Authorities tried to arrest Captain Streeter and after several years of gun fights, they finally succeeded in taking the land back. During this time, another notable Chicagoan, Potter Palmer, purchased some of the land from Captain Streeter for development.

Today, a statue of Captain Streeter can be found in the Streeterville neighborhood near Grand Avenue and McClurg Court.

At Lake Shore Park there is an outdoor running track, tennis courts, and a playground. Plus a bonus for renters living in dog-friendly Chicago apartments, this park is fido-friendly.

Luxury Living Chicago is the exclusive leasing partner for Centrum Bucktown and began pre-leasing last week. Guests viewed finish selections, including Balterio gray-tone plank flooring, pearl quartz for the countertops, and Abaco by Snaidero cabinetry. The Robey Hotel provided drinks, appetizers, and gorgeous city views up and down Milwaukee.

Adjacent to the 606, Centrum Bucktown is a short walk to the CTA Blue Line North Avenue stop. Neighborhood residents will enjoy the return of ALDI grocery store, as the retail space anchor along Milwaukee, and a counter-service Yolk restaurant, which will be a great addition to Bucktown. Centrum Bucktown will offer on-site property management and concierge plus reserved, covered parking garage with electric vehicle charging stations. Amenity spaces will include a resident lounge with coffee bar, cyber café, and billiards, a chef’s kitchen/demonstration kitchen, and state-of-the-art fitness center with Peloton Bikes. Restaurants in Chicago: West Town

August 26, 2016 | By Lauren Schechtman
Reading Time: 4 Minutes

West Town is a vibrant, up and coming neighborhood that encompasses East Village, Humboldt Park, Smith Park, and Ukrainian Village. Walking down the busy Chicago Avenues, each storefront offers uniquely exciting dining and shopping opportunities.

Breakfast: Whisk

2018 W. Chicago Ave

A popular, Ron Swanson-inspired BYOB restaurant, Whisk, serves breakfast inspired food throughout the day. The walls are decorated with whimsical portraits of the Parks and Recreation character, Ron Swanson, and the window display features a larger-than-life sized whisk that supports the restaurant’s name.

The Food:

Known for both pancakes and burgers, patrons can order a combination of breakfast and dinner by ordering a burger with a french toast bun. Those feeling decadent can take a stab at the Snickers-stuffed french toast served with a white chocolate sauce. While the restaurant is BYOB, there is an extensive soda list available for adventurous non-drinkers.

Overall:

If you’re coming for weekend brunch, expect to wait for a table. Whisk is definitely worth your time though, with a truly unique atmosphere that will make any Parks and Rec fan giddy. Service is prompt and friendly, but the food is the star of the show. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone at Whisk; everything on the menu is delicious.

Lunch: Yuzu Sushi and Robata Grill

 1751 W. Chicago Ave

Yuzu Sushi and Robata Grill is a BYOB West Town restaurant known for its colorful decoration and presentation of sushi. In addition to sushi, the menu offers an eclectic assortment of seafood starters and robata grill options. With large windows looking out to Chicago Avenue, bright summer light shines in on the busy Wednesday lunch hour as patrons seated in rustic metal chairs stare delightedly at the creative sushi resting on the wooden table. The interior is fresh and inviting, with throwback rap music filtering through overhead speakers and detailed Japanese manga adorning the walls. Featuring an open kitchen, the genius designs placed on the sushi boards surprisingly prove to be created by people.

The Food:

I began by ordering the Tuna Poke with avocado, green & white onion, Japanese chile pepper, and soy sauce. The tuna was refreshing and the pepper and onions added additional flavor to the slight salty tang provided by the soy sauce.

As someone who struggles with the art of chopsticks, I found the Monster Spider Roll to be a dish of intimidation. After a few minutes of effort, I finally managed to pick up the roll and succeed in eating it. The crisp soft shell crab provided a crunch that was offset by fresh cucumber, salty crab, delicate roe, and a thick but sweet soy sauce drizzled over the top. While only comprised of five pieces, this sushi dish was filling and satisfying.

Overall:

Fast and efficient, the service was thorough and consistent. The food was delivered quickly and no water glass was was left less than a third empty. While personable and genuine conversation does not necessarily accompany the service, it is efficient and flawless. If you’re looking for a quick lunch with artful and delicious sushi, Yuzu is the place to go.

Dinner: Mexique

1529 W. Chicago Ave

Mexicue is the product of the now-achieved dream of chef and owner, Carlos Gaytan who earned his first Michelin Star in 2013 after appearing on Top Chef.

Walking through the small door, the quiet and calm atmosphere transports you from the busy Chicago Avenue into a dimly lit reality of artfully produced food. The cherry wood flooring warmly accompanies the white walls. Sprinkled with neutral canvases and connecting with the ceiling, the wall also allows bits of exposed brick to peer from the original structure and provides tasteful, simple decorations.

The Food:

After the wine was served and orders were placed, a basket of crispy sweet bread was set down along with a chicken pate with a hint of chipotle spice. The mejillones were a perfect starter to dine on while waiting for the main course. The mussels were well cooked and submerged in a creamy, smooth saffron beurre blanc sauce. Bits of dried chorizo and pickled jalapeno added a kick of heat to the classic French dish.

A delicious twist on surf and turf, the Mar y Tierra included braised mole pork belly that fell apart with the touch of a fork, creamy sweet potato puree, pan seared scallops, green apple bacon crumbles and bits of roasted cocoa nibs. I wasn’t able to finish the rich main course, but the dish served as perfect leftovers for lunch the next day.

Overall:

Mexique excels in the details. With a simple, chic atmosphere and a calm crowd, the dining experience is the focus. In addition to the warm and friendly staff, intricate details of the food are explained as each dish is set down. Mexique is the perfect restaurant for an upscale date night or meal with friends and family!

And quite a few of those developments are happening in the West Loop/Fulton River District/River West neighborhoods.

If you’ve driven up 90/94 over the last six months, you’ve definitely seen two new pioneer developments. The first is at the corner of Lake and Halsted (171 N Halsted), and it’s a beautiful, full-glass building rising to 29 stories. It will feature 227 apartments and offer some of the best skyline views in the city. That is set to open summer 2016. The debate is whether this is technically within the West Loop or Fulton Market District, as it sits on the south side of Lake Street.

The second development is located at the intersection of Grand, Milwaukee and Halsted, at 500 N. Milwaukee, cleverly dubbed Kenect—The K in the logo looks like the intersection. This property will have 227 apartments between two buildings, and will also bring ample retail to the area. This is also slated for a summer 2016 delivery. This property resides in River West and the newest large-scale property since Mondial, which was built in 2009.

A bit further west are two more properties from Michigan Avenue Real Estate Group, known for developing luxury boutique-style residential building with extremely high-end finishes that make West Loop condo owners envious of their neighbors. The first of the two properties is called Jackson Throop Place and will have 93 apartments, and the second is called Madison Throop Place, which will feature 72 residences. The delivery dates are February and March, respectively.

Now the question is, what are all these new residents going to do since there’s hardly anything to eat and drink in that area…

Here’s a list of some of the newly opened or soon-to-be-opened restaurants and bars in the West Loop/Fulton Market District:

Fulton Market District

  • Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken — 847 W Fulton Market (Now Open)
  • Swift & Sons — 1000 W Fulton Market (Now Open)
  • Brooklyn Bowl — 302 N Green (Opening 2016)
  • Duck Duck Goat — 857 W Fulton (Opening 2016)

West Loop

  • Monteverde — 1020 W Madison (Now Open)
  • Federales — 180 N Morgan (Opening 2016)
  • The Lunatic, The Lover & The Poet — 736 W Randolph (Opening 2016)

River West

  • Black Iron Tavern — 401 N Milwaukee (Now Open)

Lakeshore East Apartments: Downtown Chicago’s Hidden Gem

October 1, 2014 | By Aaron Galvin

Not to be confused with Lakeview, the Lakeshore East neighborhood is downtown Chicago’s newest residential community. Complete with the best grocery store in the city, Mariano’s Fresh Market, this neighborhood’s proximity to the Loop, public transportation, and green space make Lakeshore East apartments a hot place to live in downtown Chicago.

Originally part of the infamous Lake Shore Drive “S-Curve,” the land was converted to a nine-hole golf course. Joel Carlins, the founder of Magellan Development Group, was golfing, looked around and thought it would be a great place to hang his hat. Nearly 30 years later, Lakeshore East apartments are now home to over 5,000 residents, dwelling in some of the nicest apartment and condo buildings the city has to offer, including The Tides (360 E South Water) and Shoreham (400 E South Water), the architecturally acclaimed Aqua (225 N Columbus) and the newest addition Coast at Lakeshore East (345 E Wacker).

Anchored by a six-acre park in a unique partnership with the City of Chicago, Lakeshore East apartments are extremely dog and family friendly. The park was honored as the Best New Park in Chicago by Chicago Magazine.

It doesn’t hurt that there are plenty of places to dine, such as Eggy’s, Wildberry and III Forks Steakhouse and Seafood. The neighborhood’s easy access to the lake front, Millennium Park, and Navy Pier also make it attractive.

Other notable Lakeshore East locations include:

– Fairmont Hotel
– Radisson Blu Hotel
– Aon Center
– Blue Cross and Blue Shield Building
– Swissôtel Chicago
– Access to the Chicago Pedway tunnels

More residential development is planned for the area – including new Chicago apartments and condos.

If you are looking for a little peace and quiet in a relaxed urban setting, then Lakeshore East apartments are definitely a place you should consider calling home.
